Empower or go home.

A new study from the Tippie College of Business confirms that workers who feel empowered by their employers have higher morale and are more productive. The study shows that when done properly, empowerment initiatives can lead to higher job satisfaction, lower turnover, and reduced stress among employees. Empowered workers also are more innovative and perform better at their jobs.

This study just confirms what we’ve always believed, and proven, at Innovative. Setting parameters, and allowing employees to make decisions to take care of the customer without multiple layers of management or complicated approval processes is a recipe for success. Nine times out of ten, when faced with a decision to resolve a customer issue, our employees make the same decision a senior manager would have. And if they didn’t, what’s important is the customer gets taken care of, and we discuss the issue later internally to see what can be learned.

Hire good people, give them the tools and parameters, and let them run with it.
