Innovative Office Solutions is the proud sponsor of the Charity of the Month program in partnership with the Minnesota Wild. The program brings exposure to a different Minnesota Charity each month throughout the NHL season.

Since 1954, the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota (EFMN) has helped those who suffer from seizures realize their full potential by providing programs and services that educate, connect and empower.  2014 marks their 60th anniversary of empowering people affected by seizures.

What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures that can affect a variety of mental and physical functions.  A person is considered to have epilepsy when they have two or more unprovoked seizures.

A seizure happens when a brief, strong surge of electrical activity affects part or all of the brain.  One in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime – and one in 26 will develop epilepsy.

  • An estimated 2.2 million Americans have epilepsy.  It affects more than 300,000 under the age of 15.  A large number of children and adults have undetected epilepsy.
  • About 200,000 cases of seizure disorders and epilepsy are diagnosed each year.
  • People with first-degree relatives (parents or siblings) who have epilepsy are at increased risk of developing seizures themselves.

People with seizures turn to EFMN for educational information, support and to connect with others who face similar challenges.  Seizures should not stop a child from fulfilling a dream to attend summer camp, or prevent an adult from achieving gainful employment.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota serves over 100,000 people annually through programs like Camp Oz, where youth with epilepsy enjoy a traditional camping experience with the safety of 24/7 medical staff.  Our Seizure Smarts Schools program brings epileptic children into a classroom to educate students, reduce bullying and foster understanding.  Foundation staff also offers free first aid training to workplaces and organizations across Minnesota and North Dakota.

The Foundation works to increase public awareness/education about seizures to reduce the stigma surrounding epilepsy.  The unpredictable nature of seizures and wide spectrum of severity can make living with epilepsy difficult – the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota is there to help!

Innovative Office Solutions is proud to partner with the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota as the Minnesota Wild Charity of the Month as they kick-off their 60th anniversary.
