The program brings exposure to a different Minnesota charity each month throughout the NHL season.  The Minnesota Wild Charity of the Month for December 2014 is Crescent Cove – formerly Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota.

Crescent Cove – formerly Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota – is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building an independent home to provide short respite breaks for children with life-limiting conditions and families, and an option beyond the hospital or home environment for compassionate hospice care at the end of life.

The first of its kind in the Midwest and the fourth to be built in this country, Crescent Cove offers a family-focused environment. Along with therapy rooms and recreational space, family suites are designed so families may stay together while enjoying a temporary vacation from the constant demands of caregiving. Skilled, on-site professionals provide daily care, meals, pain and symptom control, and therapies that include music, art and hydrotherapy.

Children and kids 0-21 years old may stay at Crescent Cove in one of 8-10 bedrooms for respite stays and as a sacred place at the end-of-life. The home also offers 3-4 suites so that the family may remain close, if they choose, while receiving physical and emotional respite – and have the opportunity to develop meaningful and supportive relationships with other families with similar experiences.

The mission of the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund is to support funding research, prevention, treatment and other programs relating to the needs of the Minnesota cancer community.  Grants given are spent on technology and tools that enhance early detection of cancer, new programs promoting research to help prevent cancer relapses, projects that demonstrate research in the area of cancer, and programs that enhance the lives of Minnesota’s cancer community by providing aid and assistance.

Making an Impact in the Classroom…Soccer Style

Not everyday do kids get the chance to interact with professional soccer players. Innovative Office Solutions teamed up with MN United FC and provided schools in the metro area an opportunity to learn from some of the best! Not only did the children learn soccer skills and interact with the players, but they also became knowledgeable on how to eat right and live a healthy lifestyle. The Love Your Melon Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to putting a hat on every child’s head in America battling cancer. Through it’s Buy One – Give One program, Love Your Melon goes into hospitals and provides children comfortable hats to wear during this difficult time.  The hats do more than keep them warm, they restore confidence. Love Your Melon’s gifts create smiles on the faces of children battling cancer and make them feel comfortable after losing their hair due to chemotherapy treatment. Additionally, the Love Your Melon crew comes dressed from head to toe as superheroes to create an unforgettable experience for the children in the hospital. For every product purchased, another of equal value is given to a child battling cancer.

Therapeutic Adventures

According to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, therapeutic treatment may boost the immune system, stimulate the heart and lungs, relax muscles, relieve pain and balance blood pressure.  With that in mind – in the spring of 2013 – Love Your Melon took its first cancer patient on a helicopter ride and an idea was born.

Creating more therapeutic adventures is an initiative that provides experiences for children that take their minds off of the difficult treatment process. This is an essential aspect to the healing process and puts a smile on their faces. Entertainment and distraction can go a long way in a child’s recovery process. It can decrease their stress levels and create positive thoughts that improve their chance of survival.

Nation Wide Tours

In an effort to expand the reach and influence of Love Your Melon, the concept of a national tour was born. The two nationwide tours brought together talented young individuals with skills in event planning, media relations, sales, photography and videography. The 1st Smile Tour in January 2014 put 5 determined young minds together on a bus traveling around the eastern and southern United States. The tour made it possible for nearly 4,000 more hats to be donated and events to be hosted in 18 different cities.

On the second West Coast Tour, with the help of 10 talented individuals, Love Your Melon was able to create 28 donation events in 18 different cities over the course of 47 days on the road. It is important to keep a local aspect with Love Your Melon. During tours, Love Your Melon has been able to set up sales events at universities, restaurants, and tourist locations. For each garment sold, supporters can take comfort in knowing that one is given to a child in their local community.

Nationwide Inspiration – Ambassador Program

From the beginning, one of the major goals for Love Your Melon was to inspire other college students to give back to their community. The Love Your Melon Foundation currently has 50 college ambassadors on campuses around the country. These individuals have been effective in sharing the Love Your Melon story while continually running our programs. They have donated over a thousand Love Your Melon hats during their therapeutic entertainment events at children’s hospitals and it is continuing to grow. With these Ambassadors, we will be able to have every hat personally donated by someone on the Love Your Melon team.

The Simple Concept of Giving

Love Your Melon’s unique value proposition creates a platform based on the simple act of giving.  It gives individuals the ability to buy something for themselves and then see the smile they’re able to create.  Children battling cancer need more than just medicine as treatment. It is proven that therapeutic treatments increase the success ratio in pediatric cancer patients.  Love Your Melon hats help restore confidence and create a sense of normalcy for these kids who are going through such a tough time. How Office Colors Effect Employees | Innovative Office Solutions

Innovative Office Solutions is your office productivity leader.  The following blog post continues our series of posts designed for you to rethink your everyday approach to productivity. 

We do a lot for ourselves to become more comfortable in the workplace.  While spending over one third of our lives at work, we do things we deem necessary to make our workspaces as comfortable as possible.  Surprisingly, one factor that gets overlooked too often are the colors with which we surround ourselves.  Science and color psychologists – yes, color psychologists – have concluded that certain colors help spark creativity and productivity, while others promote calm and soothing feelings.  Take these findings into consideration and begin to use the results to your advantage.  You may be surprised by the results.

Colors have a much more profound effect on our daily lives than we may realize.  Color psychologist Angela Wright states that, “When photons from the sun strike a colored object, that object absorbs only the wavelengths that match its own atomic structure, and they reflect the rest, and that’s what we see. So the different wavelengths strike the eye in different ways. In the retina, they are converted into electrical impulses that pass to the part of the brain known as the hypothalamus, which governs our endocrine system and hormones, and much of our activity.”  Basically, based on this explanation, colors have a profound effect on our emotions – whether we immediately realize it or not.


In today’s busy world, we’re always striving to increase productivity.  It seems like every time we turn around, there is a new app or gadget that occupies us, ultimately diverting our attention and decreasing our daily productive output.  It has been found, according to Wright’s research, the more intense the color – the more stimulated we are.  The lower the saturation of the color, the more relaxed and mellow we’ll feel.


As you may have guessed, different colors have different effects on our brain and ultimately – our emotions.  Take, for instance, the traditional primary colors – Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green.  

  • Red effects the Body
  • Blue effects the Mind
  • Yellow effects your Emotions, the Ego, and Self-Confidence
  • Green provides balance between the Mind, Body, and the Emotions.

You don’t, however, need commit to one color.  If you combine two different colors, you can experience the benefits of each included color.  For example, by combining a vibrant yellow with a vibrant blue, you will get a color that stimulates both emotions and your mind.

Results of the Annual Toilet Paper Drive! | Innovative Office Solutions

Well, sadly, the game got rained out.  BUT – we scored quite the haul thanks to all of the amazing donations from Innovative employees, vendors, and visitors to the game, as well as a jaw-dropping amount from Charmin!  Read below for the complete tally – and stay tuned for more chances to donate!

The donations from Innovative employees, Innovative vendors, visitors to the 4th Annual Saint Paul Saints Toilet Paper Drive, and with a generous donation from Charmin of a whopping 24 pallets – which added up to almost 25,000 rolls – this year’s final donation added up to close to 30,000 total rolls and this tally will help provide over 960 individuals with a 1 year supply of toilet paper!  


Regardless of rain, we had our truck at Midway stadium ready for the fun event.  Our toilet paper toss game was a hit, along with music and a lot of umbrellas. Innovative employees were in their traditional great spirits as they hung out in the rain until the game was called off.  The game was rained out, but we are working on rescheduling another TP drive with the Saint Paul Saints this summer, which will provide even MORE donations!

Double Plays for Charity | Innovative Office Solutions

In 2013, Innovative Office Solutions began the Double Plays for Charity program in partnership with the Minnesota Twins.  Throughout the regular season – for each double play made by the Twins – Innovative Office Solutions will donate to these local non-profit organizations.

The donations will be split between three organizations this year; Hospice of the Twin Cities ,  Ally People Solutions, and The Randy Shaver Cancer Research Fund.  A presentation ceremony will take place at the end of the regular season where each charity will be awarded with donation proceeds.
